Lensa Alternatives (2026): AI Portrait and Avatar Apps Compared

Lensa alternatives in 2026 include Picsart and Fotor for avatars from one photo; Photo AI, Remini and Dawn AI for look-alike photos trained on a set of your pictures; Pose for 400+ styles on a weekly plan; FaceApp for face edits; and Outwow (outwow.app), our browser studio of templates, most made from one photo.

By Outwow Studio

Four portraits made with Outwow templates: anime, 3D cartoon, a hand-painted film frame of a couple and a fashion sketch
Cover: examples made with Outwow templates, not with the apps compared.

In short

  • Lensa's site now leads with AI effects, then beauty retouching, an eraser, an enhancer and hair try-on, but the US App Store still sells Magic Avatars packs.
  • Photo AI, Remini and Dawn AI learn your face from a set of pictures; Picsart, Fotor, Pose and most Outwow templates start from one photo.
  • Fotor has a free-forever plan and apps for web, Windows, Mac, iOS and Android; Photo AI and Pose have no free tier at all.
  • Outwow (outwow.app) is ours: 196 templates in the browser and 3 free photos once, watermarked, but no App Store or Google Play app.

How we compared

We read each company's own website and, where we cite them, its pricing page, help center or FAQ and its US App Store or Google Play listing; every page we used is listed in Sources below. Prices are copied in the currency and billing period shown; where an App Store purchase shows no period, we say so rather than guess. When a company doesn't state something, we leave it out. We didn't run our photos through the other apps, so this compares what each one offers, not how good its results look.

Lensa: editing first, avatars as paid packs

Lensa's main pitch today is photo editing: the App Store listing is subtitled "Natural, realistic edits". The official site leads with Effects, Beauty, Eraser, Enhancer, Hair try-on and Presets, and hair try-on restyles your hair from one selfie. Avatars aren't on that list, but they haven't gone: the App Store still lists avatar creation and sells Magic Avatars packs from 3.99 to 11.99 USD. No page we could read says how many selfies a pack needs or how many avatars it returns. The app is free to download, and its terms say some features are free and that trials turn into paid subscriptions automatically. It runs on iPhone and Android; the US App Store also lists a Mac version, which a 2024 developer reply on that listing calls not optimized.

Remini: AI Photos trained on your pictures

Remini is mainly a photo enhancer and restorer that also improves selfies and portraits. Its Lensa-style feature is AI Photos: you choose 8 to 12 pictures of yourself so the AI learns your face, which takes a few minutes, and then you generate photos of yourself. The help center adds a gender choice and a model image that sets the mood of the photos. The iPhone app is free with in-app purchases, from 4.99 USD a week for Remini Lite, and the Android listing is marked as containing ads. The AI Photos page points to the iOS and Android app for the feature, and Remini Web is a separate enhancer with its own subscription; paying there doesn't include the app. It suits you if you also want old photos fixed in the same place.

Picsart: one photo, 20+ avatar styles

Picsart's AI Avatar Maker works like an avatar pack made from a single photo. One front-facing photo is enough; each style set returns 4 avatars, you can choose up to 10 sets per upload, and there are 20+ styles. Static avatars are ready in minutes, and the same page makes talking video avatars in 1 to 10 minutes. The avatars sit inside a full photo and video editor for the web, iPhone, iPad and Android; the US App Store also lists a Mac version for Macs with an M1 chip or later. The app is free to download, with in-app Gold, Plus and Pro plans from 4.99 USD for Gold Weekly. The web pricing page shows no free plan: Pro costs 15 USD a month billed monthly or 10.5 USD a month billed yearly. Neither page says how many credits an avatar set costs, so check before you pick ten sets.

Fotor: a free-forever plan and desktop apps

Fotor's AI Avatar Generator turns one uploaded photo into avatars in styles such as anime and realistic within minutes. That page says downloads carry no watermark, but Fotor's pricing table lists AI portrait tools and watermark-free export only on the paid Pro, Pro+ and Max plans. Fotor runs on the web, as Windows and Mac software, and on iOS and Android. The Basic plan is free forever with limited credits. Billed yearly, Pro is 39.99 USD with 100 credits a month, Pro+ is 62.99 USD and Max, labeled a special offer, is 134.32 USD; the page doesn't say how many credits an avatar uses. Realistic headshots are a separate one-time purchase: 20 headshots for 19.99 USD, 40 for 29.99 USD or 80 for 39.99 USD, each with one free redo, and Fotor's headshot page asks you to upload one photo or selfie.

Photo AI: a trained model for realistic shoots

Photo AI trains a model of you once on 5 to 15 pictures taken in different places and settings. After that, you take photos from a scene you describe or a photo pack such as AI Dating, Instagram or Wedding, and all packs are included in the membership. There is no free plan; the site says plainly that subscriptions are paid, though Pro, Max and Ultra include free photos for each new model you create. Plans are Starter 19 USD, Pro 49 USD, Max 99 USD and Ultra 199 USD a month, or 99 to 1,199 USD billed annually. Starter's 50 credits a month come labeled low quality, low likeness and personal use only, while Pro gets 1,000 credits at medium quality and likeness. It runs in the browser on a laptop or phone; its FAQ says the old iOS app is gone and that any app called Photo AI isn't theirs.

Pose: 400+ styles from one face photo

Pose starts from one clear face photo and makes photos and videos of you in 400+ styles, including headshots, dating photos and influencer content. Its page gives three speeds: under 10 seconds on average in its stats, under 20 seconds in its how-it-works steps, and about 2 minutes for most photos in its FAQ, with complex scenes taking 3 to 4. Results carry no watermark. It is subscription-only: the app is free to download, but using it costs 4.99 USD for the first week, then 14.99 USD a week, with 300 credits in the first week and 400 every week after. That is the highest weekly price in this list. Pose works on the web and has iOS and Android apps, and video is included in the same plan.

FaceApp: face edits, not avatars

FaceApp is an alternative to Lensa's retouching side, not its avatars: neither store listing mentions avatars. It edits the face in your photo with filters, hair, makeup and retouching, and its Google Play listing adds fun filters such as gender swap and aging. The official FAQ says many features are free, some Pro filters can be previewed and a trial may exist in some countries. Pro adds every filter and removes watermarks. The pricing FAQ says Pro comes in plans such as monthly and annual and shows local prices only in the app's PRO section; the US App Store lists FaceApp PRO at 10.00, 20.00, 60.00 and 100.00 USD with no period next to each price. Its site offers it only through the App Store and Google Play, and the App Store lists it for iPhone and iPad.

Dawn AI: a dedicated selfie-avatar app

Dawn AI does one job: avatars of you. You upload 8 to 12 selfies in the app, the AI trains once in a matter of minutes, and then you can make as many avatars as you like. The iPhone app also turns text prompts into portraits in many styles. It is free with in-app purchases on the US App Store: Dawn Pro Weekly at 2.99, 4.99 or 9.99 USD and Dawn AI Profile Creation at 1.99 USD. Dawn isn't available to anyone under 16. Its site mentions only the iOS and Android apps; the US App Store also lists it for Macs with an M1 chip or later, marked "Not verified for macOS". On Android, the Google Play listing shows its last update on September 2, 2024.

Outwow: photo templates in the browser

Outwow is our product: a web studio of 196 templates, most of them made from one photo, and 8 tools. Anime Portrait, Pixar Character and Sketch Collage of You are the closest to Lensa's art avatars, and the rest are themed shoots, photo trends and keepsakes for women, men, parents and pets. Headshot Studio turns one selfie into 8 headshots in corporate, startup or creative style for 8 photos a run, from the Basic plan. Hairstyle Try-On, from the Basic plan, and Remove Anything, from the Weekly Pass plan, cover Lensa's hair try-on and eraser. New accounts get 3 free photos once, watermarked, for most templates; plans are Weekly Pass at $6.99 a week with 30 photos, Mini at $9.99 a month and Basic at $19.99 a month with 120 photos. Uploads are deleted within 24 hours. Where others do better: Outwow has no App Store or Google Play app, and it doesn't build a model of your face from a set of pictures the way Photo AI and Remini do.

Which Lensa alternative should you pick?

  • Avatars from one photo on the web or phone: Picsart for up to 10 style sets per upload, Fotor if you also want Windows and Mac apps.
  • Realistic photo shoots from a model trained on your pictures: Photo AI in the browser, Remini AI Photos on mobile.
  • A dedicated avatar app on your phone: Dawn AI.
  • 400+ styles plus video from one face photo, if a weekly subscription is fine: Pose.
  • Retouching and face filters rather than avatars: FaceApp, or Lensa itself.
  • Themed looks and photo trends in the browser, with a few free photos to try first: Outwow templates.

Whichever you choose, check the renewal terms before you pay: Pose's and Remini's subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, and so does Outwow's Weekly Pass. Also read the privacy policy before uploading a set of selfies: look for how fast originals are deleted and whether they train AI models. Our checklist for AI photo apps lists what to search for.
