How to make a birthday photoshoot of yourself with AI
To get an AI birthday photoshoot of yourself, upload one selfie to Happy Birthday to Me, pick one of five scenes and, if you like, type your new age: 1 photo per run on any plan, with the first 3 photos free for new accounts. You come back dressed up as the birthday star under golden fireworks, by giant gold candles, behind a candlelit cake, in black-and-white glam or in a balloon studio, with your own face.
- Put a close-up daylight selfie into Your selfie: one face, no sunglasses, no beauty filter.
- Type Your new age in digits, up to three, or leave it empty. Then choose a Scene; Golden fireworks is the default.
- Press Create (1 photo). The result waits in My creations, ready for a post or a story.
Which birthday scene should I choose?
Pick by how big you want your face. Candlelit cake is the closest shot, chest-up, lit by the candles. Golden fireworks and Balloon studio frame you from the waist or lap up, and Black & white crops at the hips. Giant number candles is the widest: a seated full-figure shot where your face fills about a sixth of the frame height.
Every scene picks your outfit for you, modest and well fitted: a gold sequin dress or a black velvet blazer under the fireworks, a blush satin dress or a cream knit polo by the candles, a cream cable-knit sweater with the cake, a black dress or a tuxedo jacket in black and white, an ivory satin dress or a light grey suit in the balloon studio. No party hats, tiaras, crowns or sashes cover your hairline, and no champagne or other drinks appear: the crowd in the fireworks scene cheers with empty hands.
What does an example run look like?
- AI-generated sample input
Result
Golden fireworks with the age 30, made from the synthetic test photo on the left. An earlier run cut off both hands and set the 30 on her hair; this run came after that fix. - AI-generated sample input
Result
Black & white with the age 40, from the synthetic test photo on the left, first attempt. It shows the stool and the whole seated figure; the scene now crops at the hips.
How do I get a better result?
- Wear your hair in the selfie the way you want it in the photo. A bun, puff or ponytail stays pulled back, loose hair stays loose, and the length is kept.
- Beard, stubble and glasses come through as they are, so shave or switch frames before the selfie, not after.
- For a new profile picture, choose Candlelit cake: the chest-up framing keeps your face large enough to read at avatar size, and the flames stay below your chin.
What goes wrong most often?
- Leaving the age empty and expecting number candles. Without an age, Giant number candles shows three plain gold pillar candles and no digits anywhere.
- Expecting your name in the picture. The only words are HAPPY BIRTHDAY in the fireworks scene and your age; put your name in the caption when you post.
- Using it for your child's party photo. It is made for adults; Kid's Birthday Photoshoot has a cake smash, a garden party and child-sized outfits.
What you need
Your selfie
Close-up, daylight, one face. No filters or sunglasses.
Your new ageOptional
Digits only, for example 30. It becomes the candles, balloons or lights; leave it empty to keep it a secret. Up to 3 characters.

- Golden fireworks, Giant number candles, Candlelit cake, Black & white, Balloon studio
Works well
- Your face close to the camera, looking straight in
- Daylight from a window in front of you
- Only you in the frame
Avoid
- Sunglasses, masks or hair over your eyes
- Beauty filters and heavy edits
- Dark rooms and photos taken from far away
