How to make a selfie with anime characters
To take a selfie with anime characters and still look like a real photo of yourself, upload one selfie to Selfie with Anime Characters. Doraemon, Nobita, Naruto, Satoru Gojo, Sung Jin-woo and Ash from Pokémon crowd around you in a bright white living room, shot from above through an extreme fisheye, everyone pulling a silly face. A run costs 1 photo on the Free plan and returns a tall 9:16 picture.
- Upload a front-facing selfie in good light. The fisheye looks down at you from above your outstretched arm, and your features are taken from this one picture.
- Press Create (1 photo). No options to set: the six characters, the room and the camera angle come with the template.
- Check the corners of the result. The picture should run edge to edge; if it comes back as a round fisheye with black corners, run it again.
How the six characters stay in their own style
The trend mixes two looks in one frame: you as a real person, the characters as flat 2D anime drawings lit to match the room. In our first test round two things kept going wrong. The model drew the fisheye as a round porthole with black corners every time, and Ash brought Pikachu along in two of three tries. The template now asks for a full-frame ultra-wide picture and exactly these six characters, each once.
The corners still need a look: in the second round the picture filled the frame in five tries of eight, and the final wording was checked on one picture. The characters stayed flat and recognizable in it, and Sung Jin-woo came in black armor. Outwow isn't affiliated with the creators of these series; the names are what the trend uses.
What can you use it for?
- A story: the 9:16 picture fills a phone screen without cropping.
- A reaction post for a friend who watches the same shows.
- A profile picture cropped from the middle, with your face and the closest characters.

Result
From the AI-generated test selfie on the left: her pink hair with dark roots, freckles, rhinestones by the eyes and glasses on her head carried over. Six characters, no extra Pikachu and a full frame with no black corners.
How do I get a better result?
- Pull a face in the selfie if you want the full effect. The template asks for silly, exaggerated expressions, but a few of our runs still came back with a calm, closed-mouth smile.
- Keep your hair and accessories as you want them: clips, glasses pushed up and colored hair all came through on our sample.
- Use a selfie with only you in it. The six characters are the crowd, and an extra face in your photo has nowhere to go.
What goes wrong most often?
- Asking for other characters. The cast is fixed at six; for a cartoon version of yourself, use Anime Portrait.
- Expecting yourself drawn in anime style. You stay a photo; only the characters are drawn.
- Judging the face at thumbnail size. The fisheye stretches what is close to the lens, so look at the full picture before you rerun.
What you need
Your selfie
Close-up, daylight, one face. No filters or sunglasses.
Works well
- Your face close to the camera, looking straight in
- Daylight from a window in front of you
- Only you in the frame
Avoid
- Sunglasses, masks or hair over your eyes
- Beauty filters and heavy edits
- Dark rooms and photos taken from far away
