How to try a tattoo on your own arm or leg with AI

For a tattoo try on with AI, photograph your bare forearm, wrist, hand, calf or ankle, type the idea and pick a style. Tattoo Try-On returns the same photo with one tattoo that looks healed for months, bending around your arm or leg in the photo's own light. A run costs 1 photo on every plan, Free included, and a new account starts with 3 free photos.

  1. Photograph the spot close up in daylight with nothing over the skin: no sleeve, watch or bandage. If several areas show, the forearm gets the ink.
  2. Type the idea in up to 50 characters, then pick Fine line, Traditional, Blackwork, Watercolor, Japanese or Minimal script. For script, type the exact words to ink.
  3. Press Create (1 photo) and set the result beside your original: framing, pose and skin tone match, and only the tattoo is new.

How big does each style come out?

Each style is sized the way an artist would scale it. Fine line is small to medium: about palm-sized on a forearm or calf, two to four centimeters on a wrist, hand or ankle. Traditional and blackwork cover much of a forearm's visible width, watercolor runs about a hand's length, and Japanese fills the whole visible forearm or calf and wraps out of sight. Script is one or two lines, 8 to 12 centimeters wide on a forearm. A size in your idea, like tiny or half sleeve, wins over all of this.

One limit showed up in testing. On a hairy arm or leg, big solid styles (blackwork, Japanese, traditional) come out with smooth skin inside the fill while the hair around it stays, like a patch shaved before a session. In our fine line run the arm hair kept running over the ink.

What can you use it for?

  • Comparing one idea in fine line and in traditional before choosing an artist who works in that style.
  • Seeing how a name or date in script sits along the inner wrist before it's permanent.
  • Trying more than ink: Nail Art Try-On puts a manicure on a photo of your own hand the same way.

What does an example run look like?

  • AI-generated sample input: a man's bare inner forearm with light olive skin and dark arm hair, palm up on an oak table by a window
    AI-generated sample input
Man's forearm on an oak table with a healed traditional tattoo of a black panther head above a red rose
    Result
Traditional, idea "a panther head with a rose", made from the synthetic test photo on the left. Arm hair stays around the design; inside the solid color the skin is smoother than in the original.
  • AI-generated sample input: a woman's inner wrist with warm medium-brown skin and a thin gold ring, palm up on a linen cushion
    AI-generated sample input
Woman's inner wrist on a linen cushion with a fine cursive tattoo reading Still here along the forearm
    Result
Minimal script, idea "Still here", made from the synthetic test photo on the left. Spelled as typed; the ring, fingers and skin tone are unchanged.

How do I get a better result?

  • Frame the side you plan to tattoo and let it fill most of the photo: the design is centered on the largest bare area.
  • Keep the idea to one subject with details. "A panther head with a rose" came out as written, but a direction is less reliable: twice, a koi swimming up a waterfall was drawn swimming down.
  • Type script words exactly as they should read. Capitals, spaces and punctuation are copied, and "Still here" came out spelled right in our test.
  • Shoot in clear, even light. The ink takes the photo's light: where the skin is in shadow the tattoo comes out darker, and a blurry photo gives an equally soft tattoo.

What goes wrong most often?

  • Asking for a logo, a team crest or a cartoon character. You get an original design on the same theme instead.
  • Sending a chest, back or neck photo. Ink goes only on an arm, hand or leg, with the upper arm or shin as the fallback.
  • Expecting several tattoos at once. Each run adds exactly one.

What you need

  • Photo of your arm or leg

Your own bare forearm, wrist, hand, calf or ankle, close-up in daylight. Adults only; no face needed.

  • Your tattoo idea

A few words, like a wolf under the moon. For Minimal script, type the exact words to ink. Up to 50 characters.

Works well

  • Your hand, arm or leg close up, the part being styled fully in frame
  • Daylight

Avoid

  • Blurry or dark photos
  • Gloves, sleeves, rings or a phone covering the spot
