You come back as an original grown-up made of flat construction-paper shapes, standing in a snowy mountain town, with your hair, beard, glasses and outfit redrawn. What stays yours in each cartoon style?

The template keeps what friends recognize at a glance and redraws it in the style's own shapes: hairstyle and hair color, brows, a beard or stubble, glasses, freckles, your expression, skin tone, build and clothes. How much of the face survives depends on the style. Paper cut-out gives everyone two big white oval eyes, no nose and mitten hands, so your hair, facial hair, glasses and outfit carry the likeness there. Sci-fi cartoon is a waist-up shot with four-fingered hands and one portal behind your shoulder. Island village game makes you a chibi about three heads tall, with round nub hands, eyes in your own eye color and a fishing rod over one shoulder.

Logos and slogans on your clothes are left off, signs come out blank, and no other character is added. Outwow is not affiliated with South Park or any other show, studio or game.

Which photo makes the most recognizable cartoon?

• Keep your glasses on and your beard as it is: with the same white oval eyes for everyone in Paper cut-out, frames and facial hair do the recognizing.
• Wear what you want drawn. Garments, colors, neckline and layers come over simplified, and the template doesn't invent a jacket or sleeves your photo doesn't show.
• Waist-up is enough for the head-to-toe styles. Paper cut-out and Island village game add trousers or a skirt and shoes below the waist that suit the look.

What goes wrong most often?

• Looking for the yellow-skin family-sitcom look. It isn't one of the three styles: we tested it and removed it because the image service kept refusing to draw it. Paper cut-out, Sci-fi cartoon and Island village game are what you can pick.
• Expecting a glossy 3D movie close-up. These looks are flat paper, flat 2D animation or a cute game scene; for a 3D animated-film portrait, use Pixar Character.
• Uploading a child's photo. This template is for adults and always draws a grown-up; for a kid, Kid as a 3D Character keeps child proportions.
