Example result. Yours is made from your own photo.
A modern wall poster of your cat or dog: a clean, minimal flat illustration of its head and chest on a solid sage, terracotta, blush, navy or mustard background, with its name in large modern letters underneath. The fur colors and markings come from your photo, so it looks like your pet, not just the breed. A vertical print that fits standard 3:4 frames and makes an easy gift.

How to make a modern pet portrait with your pet's name
To make a custom pet portrait from a photo, upload a picture of your cat or dog to Modern Pet Portrait With Name, type its name and pick a background color. You get a minimal flat illustration of its head and chest on solid sage, terracotta, blush, navy or mustard, with the name in large modern letters below. One poster costs 1 photo on any plan, and a new account gets 3 free photos to start.
- Upload a photo with the head and chest in frame and the eyes visible. A rug or blanket behind your pet is fine: the poster is painted on a blank sheet of your color.
- Type the name in Your pet's name exactly as it should be printed, then choose the Background (Sage is preselected; each color has its own letter color).
- Press Create (1 photo), then zoom in and read the name letter by letter before you print.
How is the pet drawn?
Each fur color is a few flat shapes with crisp edges and no gradients: a base tone, one or two darker shades and a highlight. Markings sit as flat shapes where they are in your photo, with no black outlines and no oversized cartoon eyes. The eyes get the most detail and keep the photo's darkness, so deep brown stays deep brown, not amber. A long coat gets a few pointed tufts along the outline; a short coat keeps smooth edges.
The hardest problem in our runs was the photo's background creeping in: a knitted blanket or a wood floor showed up under the name in 3 of 8 early runs. Painting onto a blank canvas fixed it, with no leaks in 12 runs since. Names were the other weak spot: one canvas run set Luna as LUNA, so the name is now quoted with a letter-case rule, and after that Luna, BEAR and Sir Barksalot came out exactly as typed. Two-word names of 13 and 14 characters stayed on one line.
What can you use it for?
- A holiday or birthday gift for a pet owner, printed and framed.
- One poster per family pet, all in one color, hung as a set.
- Wall art for a kid's room with the family dog's name on it.

Which photo and color give the best likeness?
- Use a photo where your pet looks at the camera: every bust in our runs faced the viewer, including the tabby whose body was turned in its photo.
- Match the background to the coat. Our white cat stood out cleanly on blush and our black Labrador on mustard. We didn't run a black pet on navy, where a dark coat relies on its own lighter highlights along the outline; check the edges at full size.
- Take the collar off for the photo if you don't want one: our Labrador's collar stayed as a plain flat band with no tag.
What goes wrong most often?
- Typing the breed or a year into the name field. Everything in the field is printed as the name in the same large letters, and there is no second line for dates.
- Expecting brushstrokes or a 3D look. The flat shapes are the style; for an oil painting in costume, use Pet Aristocrat.
- Using a full-body shot from across the room. Everything below the chest is left out, so the poster is drawn from a face that fills only a small patch of your photo.
