AI Christmas Photo Ideas (2026): 13 Looks for Cards and Posts

The AI Christmas photos people make for cards and posts start from an everyday photo: a cozy portrait by the tree, an ugly sweater party shot, a tiny you in a snow globe, your pet on Santa's lap or a kid's drawing on an ornament. Here are 13 looks and their templates; we ran all but one.

By Outwow StudioExamples made

AI Christmas looks: a woman by a lit tree, a snow globe with a woman and her cat, a dog with Santa and a drawing ornament

In short

  • A card of you: AI Christmas Photoshoot puts one selfie by the tree, on a snowy street, by the fire, under the mistletoe or at an ice rink.
  • Funny instead of cozy: Ugly Christmas Sweater Photo, down to your pet's face knitted on.
  • Everyone on one card: Family Christmas Card joins separate photos of two to five people and up to two pets.
  • For kids, no photo of your child: Santa caught on camera in your living room, or their drawing on an ornament.
  • In the US, mail cards by December 17, so make the photos in November.

We made the pictures in this guide with Outwow (outwow.app) templates, from photos of AI-generated sample adults and pets, two empty sample rooms and two crayon drawings. The looks are grouped by who they are for: you alone, a couple, the family, your kids' drawings and your pet, each with what our test runs got right and wrong.

Solo looks from one selfie

Five templates turn one close-up selfie into a portrait of you alone: three below, two party looks after them. Your selfie's clothes don't carry over; your face, hair and skin do. AI Christmas Photoshoot has five scenes, the closest thing to a booked holiday session.

Input
Selfie of a woman with shoulder-length dark hair in a gray T-shirt against a white wall, used as the input
Result
Woman in a red cable-knit sitting cross-legged on a cream rug by a lit Christmas tree, made with AI Christmas Photoshoot
AI Christmas Photoshoot · One selfie in, the By the tree scene out: a red cable-knit and a small gift in her lap.

What we noticed: in the tree scene the freckles from our sample's selfie came out much fainter, so compare with your photo before you print. In the snow globe, early versions gave everyone a toothy grin and a younger, rounder face. We changed it to keep your own expression and age, and every globe here comes from that version.

Party looks: ugly sweaters and a midnight toast

Ugly Christmas Sweater Photo is a flash photo of you in a decorated living room at night, in a loud knit with pom-poms, tinsel and tiny lights, with nothing written on it. New Year's Eve Toast is the glam one: a toast by the tree, a rooftop countdown or giant gold 2027 balloons.

Couples: one picture from two photos

AI Christmas Photoshoot takes an optional second photo, your partner's, and puts you in one scene, each face from its own picture. In our couple runs by the tree, on the street and under the mistletoe, both faces stayed recognizable; under the mistletoe the pair stood cheek to cheek, laughing toward the camera. The first version posed them nose to nose in profile, which hid their faces, so we changed it; no scene ends in a kiss. Use two separate close-ups rather than cropping one shared photo. The partner slot is for one adult who agreed to it. For a couple with pets, Family Christmas Card takes two people and up to two pets: its Matching pajamas scene put our sample couple on a sofa with a ginger cat and a French bulldog.

Families: everyone on one card

Family Christmas Card makes one photo from separate pictures of two to five people and up to two pets, in one of six scenes, from a snowy porch to a sleigh ride. People stand left to right in upload order. Because it also takes children's photos, we don't show its results here; our runs with adults and pets are on its page. The fireplace scene took eight runs before the white cat had four legs and no Santa figurines sat on the hearth.

Santa Caught on Camera needs nobody's face. Upload your living room with nobody in it and get the same room at night on a home camera, with a visitor caught in the act: Santa, an elf, a reindeer or the Tooth Fairy, shot as security cam, night vision or flash.

Input
Modern living room with a lit Christmas tree, a gray sofa and a marble coffee table, nobody in it, used as the input
Result
The same room at night on a security camera, Santa by the window with a finger to his lips, made with Santa Caught on Camera
Santa Caught on Camera · An empty room in, the same room at night with Santa out. The tree, sofa, shelves and plant stay put.
Night-vision frame of a reindeer by a lit tree in a living room with stockings, made with Santa Caught on Camera
Santa Caught on Camera · Reindeer, night vision, a second sample room · 1st run

Both rooms kept their furniture and decorations, the traditional one down to its paintings, mantel clock and stockings. Besides the visitor, only a few small props are added, on the floor or on furniture already there: in the modern room the book on the coffee table became cookies and milk and a red gift appeared under the tree; in the other, a plate of carrots sits on the rug. In our runs the elf and the Tooth Fairy came out bigger than asked, between an adult's knee and hip. The Tooth Fairy adds no snow, so it works all year.

For a portrait of your child, Kid's Christmas Portrait has five scenes, from pajamas by the tree to a sled in the snow, and keeps the child's face and age, babies included. Like every template that takes a child's photo, it has no examples in our blog (why).

Kids' drawings on an ornament

Drawing to Christmas Ornament prints your kid's drawing flat on a white glass ball or a ceramic disc with a gold rim, hanging on a lit tree, every crayon stroke as drawn. You upload one photo of the sheet.

We make the picture, not the ornament; a photo-gift shop can print the original drawing onto a real one. More keepsakes from one sheet are in turning a kid's drawing into real life.

Pets: with Santa, in a sweater, in a snow globe

Each pet template takes one close-up of your pet and keeps its fur, markings and eyes. Pet Photo With Santa is the mall photo without the queue: on his lap, beside him by the tree or peeking out of his sack. The Santa is invented, not modeled on anyone real.

Pet Christmas Portrait is the classic card: your pet in a knit sweater by a lit tree, gifts behind, no text. We didn't run it for this guide; the card below shows its own example. In Ugly Christmas Sweater Photo, the Your pet's face sweater knits your pet onto your front: our ginger tabby came out recognizable in yarn.

Photo tips for Christmas looks

  • Take a fresh selfie: hair keeps its length from the photo, so an old one brings back an old haircut.
  • No hat, sunglasses or filters: the templates add the winter clothes. In AI Christmas Photoshoot and Family Christmas Card, glasses stay exactly as in your photo.
  • Couples and families: one person per photo, face to the camera.
  • Pets: shoot at their eye level by a window. A dim shot can shift a white or ginger coat.
  • Santa Caught on Camera keeps your photo's viewpoint, so shoot the room from where a camera would sit, with nobody in it, not even a sleeping child.
  • Drawings: shoot the sheet flat from straight above. Letters your kid wrote are copied too.

When to make Christmas cards

For delivery before December 25, 2026 in the contiguous US, the Postal Service recommends sending First-Class Mail by Thursday, December 17, Priority Mail by December 18 and Priority Mail Express by December 19 (USPS holiday shipping dates). Count back the time a print shop needs.

  • November: make the photos, two runs of your favorite scene to choose from.
  • Late November: order prints. The results shown here are 3:4; a 5 by 7 inch card is a little narrower, so the shop trims the sides.
  • By December 17: mail cards inside the US.
  • The week before Christmas: post the globe, the sweater or the Santa frame.
  • December 26 to 31: the New Year's Eve toast.

Every result is full size on every plan; free results carry a watermark, so print from a paid plan. Results are deleted after your plan's history window, so download the ones you print.

Do these ideas work in ChatGPT or Gemini?

Yes: attach a photo and describe the scene. In December 2025 The Tab showed a candy-cane photoshoot made from a selfie in ChatGPT, and NewsX listed selfie prompts for Christmas portraits by a tree, by a fireplace or in falling snow. Here are two starter prompts we wrote; they are not what our templates run, and we haven't tested them. Check the result for a changed face, pets at the wrong size and garbled letters, faults we saw in our own runs.

Starter prompt: cozy portrait by the tree
Using my attached selfie, make a warm editorial Christmas portrait of me sitting on a cream rug in front of a lit Christmas tree, wearing a chunky red cable-knit sweater and holding a small wrapped gift. Keep my face, hair length, skin texture and age exactly as in the photo. Warm side light, soft bokeh, vertical 3:4. No text anywhere.
Starter prompt: your pet with Santa
Using the attached photo of my pet, show the same animal sitting next to a friendly Santa with a real white beard and a red velvet suit, in a cozy room with a lit tree and wrapped gifts. Keep the fur color, markings and eye color exactly as in my photo, at the pet's real size. Warm light, vertical 3:4, no text.

How we made these examples

Tested on
Inputs
AI-generated sample people (adults), sample pets, two sample living rooms with nobody in them and sample drawings in a child's style, made for our tests
Runs
7 to 19 test runs per template while we built it, across several versions of its prompt; each caption counts every run of that look on that input. Family Christmas Card was run on October 1, 2026 and its results stay on its own page; the rest were run on October 2.
What didn't work
The snow globe's early versions gave everyone a toothy grin and a younger, rounder face, and cats still come out about 1.3 times their real size. Winter Fairytale Portrait kept drawing a twin-towered church like Prague's; in the one run after we asked for a single far-off spire, two towers still showed, but only as soft shapes. The photoshoot's street scene drew shop signs with garbled letters, and its first couple pose hid both faces in profile. Ugly Christmas Sweater Photo once added glasses and blurred guests, and its smile turned closed lips into a grin, as New Year's Eve Toast did. Family Christmas Card needed eight runs of the fireplace scene. In Santa Caught on Camera the elf and the Tooth Fairy came out larger than asked.
